FAQs

Do I need therapy?

Let me take you through a scenario.

In an ideal world, we all have access to the library of mind management. Some exclusive reads would be - “Who are you?: Take this quiz to find yourself; Including a special interview with Benedict Cumberbatch on how he found himself”. “15 quick steps to let go off your emotional baggage's, with a quick exclusive on childhood traumas”. Heal yourself within a week — warts and all”. Fun read. Practical stuff. If only life were this easy, right?

But in real life, we have to do the hard work by sometimes making uncomfortable decisions. It might entail reaching out to a stranger who could provide a safe space and a toolkit in navigating through life’s obstacles. Therapy can be a process of unlearning and relearning and would take you through a journey towards self realization and self optimization.

What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a way to help people experiencing significant emotional distress that is coming in the way of them being physically well, enjoying personal relationships or working productively. Psychotherapy begins with the therapist understanding the background of the person seeking help and the concerns that led them to seek help. Following this, the client and psychotherapist come to an agreement about the goals of treatment, treatment procedures, and a regular schedule for the time, place and duration of their treatment sessions.

What are the responsibilities of my therapist?

As a therapist, my role here is to help you through this process by providing you with a safe space without judgement, focusing on your needs, and setting goals to achieve the same. There might be certain times where I, the therapist, would offer you suggestions and information that might be useful for the process of therapy. This process involves goals that are set between you, the client and the therapist and they are worked upon in a collaborative manner.

Please note that the therapeutic space cannot be used for emergency situations and under such circumstances, please contact your nearest hospital for support.

How many sessions do I need?

Therapy unfolds as a process, and expecting a complete ‘cure’ in a couple of sessions is unrealistic. The primary aim of the initial few sessions is to establish a therapeutic bond and gain insight into your primary concerns. Just as issues don't arise overnight and develop gradually, the process of healing also takes time and cannot be rushed. There are no instant magical fixes in this journey, and so commitment to the process is crucial. Every individual is distinct, and their path to healing will progress at its own pace.

How do I prepare for the first session?

You may want to prepare some points if you'd like to on what brings you to this space, but there's no requirement to do so before the session. As the therapist, I would ensure your comfort and guide you through the process.

Is it confidential?

As a client, your therapy sessions are confidential. I cannot and will not tell anyone else what you have told me, or even that you are in therapy with me, without your prior written permission. You may direct me to share information with whomever you choose to and you can change your mind and revoke the permission at any point of time.

No information recorded at any point on the website will be shared or disclosed without written consent from the client.
The circumstances in which confidentiality may be broken include:

  1. Where you as a client give consent for confidentiality to be broken.

  2. Where I feel it is appropriate to consult with, or involve other professionals, in circumstances where there is a risk of harm to you, the client or to a third party. In such cases, I will aim to discuss any action with you first and seek to gain your cooperation.

  3. Where I am legally compelled by a court of law. I may consult with my supervisor (if necessary) to provide you with the best possible care. Your identification details are kept confidential during these professional discussions.

Is there a sliding scale option?

Yes, we offer a sliding scale option for therapy services to accommodate varying financial situations. The sliding scale operates on a flexible fee structure based on individual income levels, ensuring that therapy remains accessible to all. Please mail us to know more about this option.

What is the rescheduling/cancellation policy?

Any cancellation/rescheduling of appointment requires a minimum of 24 hours notice. If less than 24 hours notice is given, the complete fee for the session will be retained. There will be a waiting period of 15 minutes from the scheduled time, after which the session would stand canceled. All refunds initiated will be credited to your bank account in 6-8 business days.
This practice of being charged for missed sessions or late cancellations is a standard practice in the field, and takes into account that you are not just paying for services rendered, but reserving a time slot which cannot be offered to someone else on short notice. Please note that if a prior agreement has been made between the client and the therapist regarding their absence then the same shall not be held in their case.

What if my therapist cancels?

Sometimes, circumstances beyond control may prompt me, the therapist, to cancel a session. When possible, I will notify you beforehand if there's any pre-planned unavailability. In cases of emergencies, I will inform you of the cancellation and work together with you to reschedule the session at the nearest available time slot.
